FEAR of flying
Overcome Flight Anxiety & Reclaim Your Freedom to Travel
Are you avoiding holidays, missing family milestones abroad, or turning down overseas business trips due to a fear of flying (aerophobia)?
You are not alone. Between 1 in 3 and 1 in 10 people in the UK experience anxiety around air travel. Fortunately, flight anxiety is highly treatable. The Freedom to Fly™ programme uses evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help you manage your fear, regain control, and travel with confidence.

Why Do We Fear Flying?
At its core, flight anxiety is usually underpinned by a fear of losing control—either worrying that something terrible will happen to the plane which you cannot control, or fearing that you will experience panic / another physical catastrophe and have no control over yourself with no escape route.
Whether your fear stems from thoughts of what might happen in the air or the physical sensations of panic, CBT provides practical, proven strategies to change how you react to these triggers.
Common Triggers for Flying Anxiety
Every individual experiences flight anxiety differently. The Freedom to Fly™ programme helps address a wide range of underlying concerns which fall into two categories – a loss of internal control and a loss of external control.
- Aircraft Safety Concerns: An external based fear which includes excessive worrying about turbulence, mechanical failure, severe weather, security risks, or human error.
- Fear of Panic & Losing Internal Control: Worrying about having a panic attack, heart attack or other physical catastrophe. Alternatively, losing control of yourself on a plane and how that could harm you, or give you a feeling of being unable to escape.
- Related Phobias & Conditions:
- Claustrophobia – feeling trapped in the aircraft cabin
- Agoraphobia – fear of being away from home or safe spaces
- Acrophobia – fear of heights
- Emetophobia – fear of motion sickness or being sick.
